Former England batsman Marcus Trescothick has backed his Somerset teammate, Nick Compton, to come good in the just to begin four-match Test series against India, if given a chance to open the innings for England, alongside skipper Alastair Cook.
"It?s about batting long periods of time...we?ve seen him do that on many occasions and he is one of the best in country at doing that. When he gets going he?ll churn it out which is what he is all about," the former England batsman said on the Somerset website yesterday.
Compton, 29, is currently touring India with the Three Lions, and is competing with Yorkshire man Joe Root for the vacant opening spot in the Test side, alongside Cook. The opening position has been up for grabs since former skipper Andrew Strauss? retirement in August. The four-match Test series between India and England gets underway in Ahmedabad on November 15.
Former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq has welcomed the resumption of Indo-Pak cricketing ties after a gap of five years, and is hoping for the Indian cricket team to reciprocate soon.
India and Pakistan cricket teams are set to play a short limited-overs series, comprising three One day Internationals and two T20 Internationals, at former?s backyard later this year. Despite being Pakistan?s turn to host the bilateral series between the two, the PCB agreed to send its team to India in a bid to break the ice.
"It?s good we?ll soon resume bilateral ties and for this I think Pakistan Cricket Board deserves a lot of credit for making this happen," Inzamam said. "I?d urge India to also tour Pakistan and play a full Test series," the legendary Pakistan batsman added further.
West Indies wicketkeeper batsman Denesh Ramdin believes the pitches in Bangladesh are quite similar to the ones in the Caribbean, and is expecting spinners, Sunil Narine and?Veerasammy Permaul, to exploit the spin friendly conditions in the two-Test series against the Bengali Tigers.
"The pitches here are similar to a lot of pitches back in the Caribbean," said Ramdin while speaking to media reporters on Tuesday. "It?ll be to our advantage with Sunil Narine and Veerasammy Permaul," he added further.
The Darren Sammy led West Indies cricket team arrived in Capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka, on Monday morning to play two Tests, five One Day Internationals and a T20 International. The tour gets underway in Mirpur, on November 13, with a Test match between the two outfits.
